Travelling through Europe
While studying at the University of Leeds in the UK, I also had the opportunity to travel to some major cities in Europe. During the month of March, I traveled to 8 countries and 12 cities by train.
I collected many photos of my travels and I also collected the sounds of these cities along the way. All photographs taken on an iPhone 6.
Amsterdam, Netherlands
Amsterdam was one of the most interesting cities that I visited. While I am no cyclist, I fell in love with the idea of travelling throughout the city by bike. Every building is unique. Some of my favourite moments in this city were getting lost through the streets and finding new buildings.
Berlin, Germany
Many history lessons came into reality during the time I spent in Berlin. While I was only there for two days, I embarked on a 6-hour walking tour of the city. This was the perfect way to see the city in such a short period of time. Our guide gave us in depth history about Berlin during the Cold War and World War II.
Prague, Czech Republic
I often refer to Prague as the real life Disney World. The Prague Castel, churches and architecture makes the city feel like a fairytale. I visited Prague during Easter, which was a particularly interesting experience as Prague continues to celebrate many historic Easter traditions.
Budapest, Hungary
The Austro-Hungarian architecture continued throughout Budapest. I spent four days in this amazing city after taking an overnight train from Prague. The Turkish baths in Budapest are unbelievably detailed with mosaics and marble, it felt like luxury. The city is so vibrant and very affordable, I did not want to leave.
Vienna, Austria
I visited Vienna for a short layover on my way to Italy. Again the Austro-Hungarian architecture was beautiful.
Venice, Italy
While many might fantasize about visiting Venice and riding in a gondola, the reality is that it's falling apart. The city is sinking, it's crowded and pricey. I would recommend visiting Murano and Burano islands if you are in Venice. It's a more laid back area, and I loved watching where they make the beautiful lace and glass sculptures on each of these islands.
Florence, Italy
Florence is home to the most beautiful artwork of the Renaissance period. I was in awe of the beauty of this city and the great food and gelato.
Milan, Italy
I have never seen so many well-dressed people in one place. Milan is certainly one of the fashion capitals of the world and it showed. While the city was very busy and expensive, I loved walking down the beautiful streets and alley ways.
Bern, Switzerland
Bern was a three-hour train journey from Milan and it was certainly one of the most beautiful train journeys I experienced on my trip. I loved visiting Bern even for only a few hours. The air was so fresh and the city was so clean and village like. I would love to visit Switzerland again.
Paris, France
I visited Paris when I was 18 years old and didn't fall in love with the city like I expected to. However, visiting this city for the second time certainly changed my opinion. I had the opportunity to stay with a friend who was studying in Paris and I was able to really get a feel for the city. While there, I also visited Versaille, which was an incredible experience.
